Amlin Underwriting achieves Corporate Chartered Insurer Status
29 November 2010
Amlin Underwriting Limited has become the first London market insurer to achieve the gold standard of Corporate Chartered Insurer status. Chartered status, which is granted by the Privy Council, was introduced earlier this year by the Chartered Insurance Institute and follows the widely supported Aldermanbury Declaration on raising standards within the insurance profession. Amlin is now a signatory to that Declaration also.
Chartered Insurer Status gives the insurance industry parity with many of the other professions –bankers, accountants and actuaries – with whom we do business or whom we may seek to employ. The CII requires applicant companies to provide evidence of their delivery of skills and knowledge training, performance management, values and commitment to ongoing professional development.
420 Amlin staff were deemed “in scope” for this project, comprising all customer facing underwriting and claims staff from Amlin London and Amlin UK.
David Harris, Managing Director of Amlin Underwriting said, “We believe this award will send a powerful message to our brokers and clients that they should expect high standards of professionalism when working with Amlin. This should also serve as a differentiator from our peers and help us continue to attract talented professionals to the Group.”
Dr. Sandy Scott, Director General of the CII commented, “We are pleased that Amlin Underwriting has made this powerful commitment to raising professional standards within the company. A large number of London market insurers have signed the Aldermanbury Declaration and we hope they too will invest the necessary effort in helping align insurance with other professions in the financial services sector.”
